Internet Threats While Surfing
During my Internet searches, I ran into this illegitimate pop-up. I opened the link to the website I wanted to view and this pop-up appeared. The phony page and pop-up is actually a gif/jpg controlled by a javascript applet. So clicking anywhere starts the executable program. To avoid trouble, don't click anywhere on the screen. To make sure the nonsense goes away, hit Ctrl+Alt+Delete, this will open Windows Task Manager.

Click the Applications tab (it should default to this tab). Highlight the questionable application. Then click the End Task button down below. [See: Anatomy of a Malware Scam] Reputable websites do not fire pop-up/click here/download this windows at you as soon as you open their pages. This is a red flag. However, if this happens, do not panic. Simply follow the steps laid out earlier. If you do click, run your Malware/Spyware search program. You can use Virus Total to check the integrity of any file on your computer. Email the questionable file or upload it.

Links/Pop-ups
We do not use cookies; however, links might. Use your browser tools or the CleanUp!® tool to eliminate them.
Pages that get hacked have links that are redirected, excessive or persistent pop-ups or pics are misaligned with text. You can refresh the page then click the stop button. Try Refresh>>Stop before the pics load and block text.
If the Java Console® opens up at any time just close the window.
Popular browsers continue to be vulnerable to clickjacking attacks.

Videos can be viewed enlarged if you right-click and open a new window/tab.
Baud rate will depend on the time of day and Internet traffic.
Set text size to Medium for best resolution.

Video
Adobe™ Flash Player is provided for videos; you may need an older version depending on your system. [See: View all Adobe™ downloads]
Video data streams may be less reliable during peak traffic.
This video codec will allow you to access many video streams.
Practice webcam safety.
Hovering over the video screen while video is loading slows its progress.
Some videos access Windows™ media player. You may get a pop-up saying cannot view media or search the web for what you need etc. Just click the Now Playing tab, then click More Options. Click Player tab on pop-up, then check the Download codecs automatically box.
